Why Should You Buy American Made?

Where are the products you purchase made? Why should you care to find out where they are made and who makes them? According to CNBC, more people than ever are buying American made products. In fact, almost 8 in 10 American consumers say they prefer American made products . So, why should you buy American made?

Customer Service

Nothing is more frustrating than calling customer service for product assistance and getting absolutely nowhere. Even worse is calling customer service for a foreign outsourced company. In today’s world, customer service can make or break a company, with many organizations competing strictly based on the customer service they offer . At Turtleback, we don’t do voicemail. That means we believe in being here for you whenever you need us. Our dedicated customer service team responds to 100% of your inquiries and we are here to answer your call 24 hours of the day. We care about you, the customer, and we want your needs to be met, every time. Customer feedback fuels everything we do, and even inspires improvements in design and manufacturing.

The Economy

Buying American made products supports American manufacturing which boosts the U.S. economy. By purchasing American made products, you are helping to reduce the U.S. trade deficit, support a higher tax base, and stir greater economic growth . You may not have noticed, but according to the Los Angeles Times , the market for Middle Class jobs is shrinking quickly in the U.S. However, American manufacturers are fighting back against this shrinking job market, by breaking the cycle of outsourcing and creating jobs in our communities. When you buy American made products, you are actually making a positive difference in your community, state, and country.

Working Conditions

A few years ago, a documentary uncovered the poor working conditions inside Chinese factories manufacturing Apple products . This started the conversation about the working conditions and human treatment behind the products we buy. When you buy American made, you can rest easy that your product was manufactured under safe and fair working conditions. At Turtleback, working conditions are about a lot more than that. We care about our employees and our employees care about the product. Our production team is experienced and brings growth to our company by suggesting new designs, processes, and mentoring newer team members. Yet, of course, this comes from the top down. Our management believes in investing in employees and their future. In 2008, when the recession hit, our management had to decide how to handle the economic downturn. Instead of resorting to mass lay offs, we worked individually with employees to temporarily reduce hours while our owner personally financed payroll. This was a risk, and it turned out to be the right one! We believe that caring about our employees, and providing them with a work environment where they can flourish, will ultimately result in a better product for you, the customer.

Happy Employees… Who Listen to You

Have you ever been in a store with an angry employee? This seems to happen all too often. Maybe it is because so many employees hate their jobs. Or possibly, it is because so many employees today are not a part of the “big picture”. Often times, in American made products, employees see the big picture, from design, to manufacturing to customer service. When an employee can see it all, and be fulfilled in the process, you’re a lot more likely to have a happy employee. At Turtleback, we not only believe in Happy Employees who see the whole picture, but we believe in employees who understand the importance of customer feedback. In fact, as mentioned, customer feedback is integral to everything we do. As a US manufacturer, we are in tune to the needs of the US consumer. With a great deal of business customers seeking out custom products, we get a great deal of orders that arrive AFTER a poor experience with a foreign manufacturer. Not to mention from the time you order a custom product, as it goes through design, to production, to prototype, to shipping out in volume, we can get your product in your hands in as little as 1-2 weeks. Now that is something that you cannot get through a foreign manufacturer.

There are many benefits (more than we can list!) for buying American made products. You are buying more than a product; you are buying into the lives and stories of the individuals creating your product. At the core of Turtleback is a belief and philosophy that American manufacturing can be prosperous. We believe in pouring into the U.S. economy and investing in our employees. Most importantly, we believe in listening to our customers, and immediately implementing your feedback into every part of what we do.

We are proud to be American made!
